Signs That Indicate It Might Be Time For Assisted Living Arrangements

by Rosie Stevens

Many people find themselves in the difficult position of having to decide whether it is time to place a loved one in an assisted living facility. This can be a hard decision to make, but it can be a little easier if you can be confident with the decision that you make. To help with that, you will want to take a few minutes of your time to review the following signs of someone needing that extra bit of care in their day-to-day lives.

Forgetting Medication

It is one thing to forget to take a daily vitamin. It is something completely different when the person you care about is forgetting to take daily medication that their health relies on. Whether the medication is for the treatment of high blood pressure or for diabetes maintenance, it is extremely important to remember to take the medication. Should you find that there are extra pills leftover when it is time to refill his or her prescription, it is time to ask what is happening. Is he or she trying to save medication and money by skipping some doses? Are they simply forgetting to take them as scheduled, possibly believing that they had taken them when they did not? If this becomes a pattern, you may want to talk to someone about the option of assisted living.

Unable To Tend To Personal Hygiene

If your loved one is no longer able to keep up with the daily routine of taking showers, brushing teeth, combing hair, and putting on fresh clothing, it is time to look for some assistance. The assisted living facilities will give him or her all of the extra care that is needed in order to ensure that health and hygiene is kept as a top priority. Whether the lack of personal hygiene upkeep is the result of forgetfulness or problems with mobility, it is not something that you want to ignore.

A High Risk For Injury

Is your friend or family member having trouble walking up and down the stairs? Does he or she seem shaky when walking into the next room? Have there already been incidents where there has been a trip and fall? If so, then you are going to want to call an assisted living facility for an evaluation. The last thing you want is to ignore the issue and then your loved one breaks a bone or is left scared.

With the previously mentioned signs in mind, you should have no trouble making sure that you are getting the person you care for the help he or she needs when it is needed the most.  For more information, talk to an assisted living professional like Wedgewood Estates.
